General Questions

What is HeartFocus?

HeartFocus is an AI-powered cardiac imaging assistant that helps medical professionals acquire diagnostic-quality heart ultrasound images in just a few hours — even without prior echocardiography training. It runs on iPad and with Butterfly iQ+ and iQ3 probes.

Who can use HeartFocus?

Any health care professional. With just a short onboarding, nurses, physician assistants, and any medical doctor ( general practitioners, emergency doctors , …) can start capturing diagnostic-quality cardiac views. Training will be provided by the DESKi team.

What types of cardiac views does HeartFocus guide?

HeartFocus supports 10 standard transthoracic echocardiographic (TTE) views, including Parasternal Long Axis (PLAX), Apical 4-Chamber (A4C), Subcostal IVC (SC-IVC), and others.

What makes HeartFocus different?

Live guidance. Auto-record. AI-validated quality. No cloud dependency.HeartFocus mimics how a trained sonographer scans — giving real-time guidance, detecting optimal image quality, and automatically saving the best clips.

Can I see how HeartFocus works?

You can see HeartFocus in action via online quick guide tutorial videos.

What is the HeartFocus Pricing?

HeartFocus is sold as a single license per Butterfly probe serial number. Usage is unlimited for each license (and no login is needed to start scanning).

A single license sold costs $695 (for customers who buy less than 5 licenses).

Customers receive a 30-day free trial sign-up period.

Enterprise sales pricing is available upon request to Sales (for more than 5 licenses).

What is the difference between HeartFocus and HeartFocus Education?

HeartFocus and HeartFocus Education are different products.

HeartFocus Education was previously made available for education purposes only in Butterfly Garden: supporting healthcare professionals in mastering cardiac ultrasound. It is not a medical device and cannot be used in clinical settings. This product was free and is retired from the market on August 24th, 2025.

The NEW HeartFocus clinical app, is FDA cleared for use in clinical settings and for use with patients, starting August 27th, 2025 when the product launches.

HeartFocus - Scanning Experience

What does the AI guidance actually do?

HeartFocus gives real-time visual cues — showing how to tilt, translate, or rotate the probe to reach a diagnostic-quality view. When image quality is high enough, the software auto-records the best clip.

Can I override the AI and record manually?

Yes. In addition to Auto-Record and Best-Effort Record, users can trigger Manual Record and choose whether to save the clip.

How does HeartFocus determine if a clip is diagnostic?

The AI was trained on over 1 million labeled images. In the clinical trial, 99.7% of auto-recorded clips were rated diagnostic by expert cardiologists.

Can I save or export the views captured in the HeartFocus app?

Yes, HeartFocus can store views collected and includes DICOM export for exam sharing.

Can I capture color Doppler images with HeartFocus?

No, HeartFocus does not currently include the Doppler feature. But please sign up for the newsletter on www.heartfocus.ai to be notified of new product launches.

Does HeartFocus estimate the ejection fraction?

No, HeartFocus does not currently include the Ejection Fraction feature. But please sign up for the newsletter on www.heartfocus.ai to be notified of new product launches.

Data & Security

How are patient scans stored and protected?

Scans are stored locally on the tablet. No data is sent to DESKi servers. Scans can be sent securely via DICOM to a PACS. HeartFocus includes audit logs and complies with HIPAA and TLS encryption best practices.

What happens if the probe disconnects?

You’ll get a warning message. Just reconnect via the Butterfly iQ app and resume scanning. Your exam is saved unless you choose to discard it.

Can exams be deleted?

Yes. But deletion is permanent. We recommend deleting only after exams are successfully sent to PACS.

Troubleshooting

Live guidance isn’t showing — what should I do?
  • Ensure the probe is properly placed and facing the heart
  • Adjust the depth or gain if needed
  • Reposition for better intercostal windows
  • Refer to the chest UI to orient yourself

Exam won’t send?
  • Confirm WiFi or cellular connection
  • Check DICOM server settings
  • Contact your IT team if issues persist
